Title tag and meta description
Edit these under "Search engine listing" on the product. Lead the title with the product name and the phrase people actually search, keep it readable, and make the meta description say what makes this product worth choosing. Avoid stuffing keywords, since titles are also what people read in search results.
Original, useful product copy
Manufacturer text is used by every other store that sells the item. Write your own: who it is for, what it is made of, how it fits or works, how to care for it and what is included. Put the details a buyer would otherwise have to ask about first.
Headings and page structure
The product title should be the single H1. Use H2s for sections such as details, sizing, shipping and FAQs so both people and search engines can scan the page.
Images and media
- Use descriptive file names before uploading (for example blue-cast-iron-skillet-10-inch.jpg).
- Write specific alt text for each image that describes what it shows.
- Compress and size images correctly. Large images are a common cause of slow product pages.
- Add video only if it is optimised and does not delay the page load.

Structured data and reviews
Product markup with price, availability and, where you have genuine reviews, ratings can make your listing eligible for rich results. Check what your theme outputs, and validate it. See schema markup for Shopify.
Internal links and variants
- Link the product to its parent collection and to related products or guides.
- Let variants share one product page instead of creating near-duplicate products.
- Check that variant URLs canonicalise to the main product URL. See our guide to duplicate content and canonicals.
