Shopify Custom App Development
A custom app is built for your store and nobody else's — no App Store listing, no billing screens, no compromise to suit ten thousand other merchants. We build them to connect Shopify to the systems you already run, automate the operations eating your team's week, and add the store-specific features no public app will ever ship.

Why it matters
Most operational pain isn't a Shopify problem. It's a gap between Shopify and everything else.
Shopify runs the storefront and the order beautifully. It does not run your warehouse, your accounting ledger, your B2B pricing rules or your returns desk. So teams bridge the gap manually — exporting CSVs, re-keying orders into an ERP, checking two systems to answer one customer question. A custom app closes that gap in code: it listens to Shopify events, talks to your other systems, and does the work nobody should be doing by hand. The honest caveat is that a custom app is software you now own. It needs hosting, monitoring and someone to fix it when an API version deprecates. If an off-the-shelf app covers 90% of the requirement, we'll tell you to buy it.
Sound familiar?
Most custom apps start with someone doing a machine's job by hand.
Some of these genuinely need bespoke software. Others are an app-store purchase or a process fix, and we'd rather point you there than take the build.
- Someone on your team re-keys Shopify orders into an ERP or accounting system every single morning.
- Your 3PL needs a file format Shopify doesn't export, so fulfilment runs on manual spreadsheets.
- You have B2B pricing or approval rules that no off-the-shelf app models correctly.
- You're paying for four apps that each solve a fragment of one workflow.
- You assume a custom app will be cheaper long-term than a subscription. Often it isn't.
- Inventory lives in three systems and none of them agree on the actual number.
What's included
What a custom app build includes
A production application with your store's rules encoded in it — built, deployed, monitored and documented.
ERP, CRM and 3PL integration
Two-way sync between Shopify and NetSuite, Business Central, SAP, HubSpot, or your 3PL. We map the fields properly, handle partial failures with retries and a dead-letter queue, and make reconciliation visible — so a failed order sync surfaces as an alert, not as an angry customer three days later.
Operations automation
The repetitive work your team does daily: tagging and routing orders, splitting fulfilments across locations, flagging fraud patterns, generating supplier POs, syncing inventory across channels. Each rule is written against your actual process, not a generic template with a settings page.
Admin API and GraphQL
Built on the GraphQL Admin API with bulk operations for large catalogues, cursor pagination done correctly, and rate-limit handling that backs off rather than hammering. We pin an API version and keep a scheduled review so a Shopify deprecation never arrives as a production outage.
Webhooks and event handling
Order, product, inventory and fulfilment webhooks with HMAC verification, idempotency keys and a queue behind them. Shopify retries aggressively and delivers out of order — apps that assume otherwise create duplicate records, and that's the most common defect we're called in to fix.
Internal tooling and dashboards
Interfaces for the people who run the store: a merchandising tool, a returns console, a B2B quoting screen, a reconciliation dashboard. Built where your team already works — inside Shopify admin, or standalone when the workflow doesn't belong there.
Hosting, monitoring and handover
Deployed to infrastructure you own, with structured logging, error alerting and uptime checks configured from day one. You get the repository, the runbook and an architecture document — so switching maintainers is a decision, not a crisis.
How it runs
How a custom app build actually runs.
Typically 6–12 weeks from first call to production, depending on how many systems are involved and how clean their APIs are.
- 01
Map the workflow
We sit with the people doing the manual work and document what actually happens, including the exceptions they handle informally. Half of scope creep on app projects comes from undocumented edge cases discovered in week six.
- 02
Prove the integration
Before committing to a full build we test the hardest connection — usually the ERP or 3PL API. If its rate limits, auth model or data model make the requirement unworkable, you find out cheaply rather than late.
- 03
Build and instrument
Development against a development store with your real data shape, logging and alerting wired in as we go. You review working software each sprint rather than waiting for a single reveal at the end.
- 04
Cut over and monitor
A parallel run where the app and the manual process operate side by side until the numbers match, then cutover. Thirty days of active monitoring follows, because integration defects surface under real volume.

Straight answer
Custom software is the expensive answer. Sometimes it's still the right one.
A good fit if…
- You can name the manual process being replaced and roughly how many hours it consumes weekly.
- The systems you need to connect have a documented API and someone who can grant access.
- You accept ongoing ownership — hosting, monitoring and occasional maintenance as APIs change.
- Your requirement is genuinely specific to your business, not a common problem with existing solutions.
Probably not, if…
- A public app already does 90% of this. Buy it and adapt your process to the missing 10%.
- You want to escape app subscriptions. Build and maintenance usually costs more than the subscriptions.
- Nobody internally can define the business rules, so the spec would be written by us guessing.
- The system you need to integrate has no API and only exports files by manual download.

Frequently asked questions
- Scope moves it too much for a published figure to be honest, so we quote per project. Three things drive the number: how many systems the app has to talk to, how well documented their APIs are, and how many informal exceptions your process carries. A single integration replacing one manual task sits at one end; an ERP plus a 3PL plus a reconciliation dashboard sits well beyond it. You get a fixed-scope quote after a free discovery call, not an hourly rate that drifts.
